The skin eruptions and inflammation of acne typically begin during puberty, when oily secretions undergo an increase. Recommended dosageThe usual dose is a thin film of Azelex (Azelaic) applied twice a day. What side effects may occur?Side effects cannot be anticipated. If any develop or change in intensity, inform your doctor as soon as possible. Only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue using this medication.
Special information if you are pregnant or breastfeedingThe effects of Azelex (Azelaic) during pregnancy and breastfeeding have not been adequately studied. If you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant, notify your doctor immediately. Small amounts of Azelex could appear in breast milk. If you are nursing, use this medication with caution. Special warnings about Azelex (Azelaic)Azelex (Azelaic) may cause some itching, burning, or stinging when you first begin treatment. You can expect this to stop as treatment continues. If it doesn't, you should check with your doctor. You may have to cut back to a single application daily, or even temporarily stop using this medication. Azelex (Azelaic) has been known to occasionally have a bleaching effect on the skin. Report any abnormal changes in skin color to your doctor. Possible food and drug interactions when taking Azelex (Azelaic)No interactions have been reported. |
