Prednisolone Review
brand name: Generic only. No brands available.
generic name: Prednisolone
How does it work?
Prednisolone belongs to a group of medicines known as corticosteroids. These act inside the cells to decrease the release of certain chemicals that are important in the immune system. By decreasing the release of these chemicals in a particular area, inflammation is reduced.
Prednisolone is commonly used for the short-term treatment of inflammation in the eye (due to allergy, injury or infection) or ear (due to eczema).
What is prednisolone?
Prednisolone is in a group of drugs called steroids. Prednisolone reduces swelling and lowers the body's immune response.
Prednisolone may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide.
Prednisolone is used to treat many immune and allergic disorders, such as multiple sclerosis, asthma, psoriasis, lupus, arthritis, and ulcerative colitis. It is also used to treat many different conditions such as endocrine (hormonal) disorders when the body does not produce enough of its own steroids.
